NET ZERO Conference Aims to Drive Action

torsdag 11. april 2024 For the third time, Aalborg Congress & Culture Center (AKKC) is opening its doors to the NET ZERO pathways conference, once again highlighting opportunities to accelerate the green transition in businesses and organizations. On Monday, September 30, moderator Karin Cruz Forsstrøm will take the stage to guide the day's proceedings, with world-renowned climate scientist Sebastian Mernild among the guests.

It is well known throughout the country that Aalborg Congress & Culture Center is one of the leading advocates for sustainability in the industry.

With two significant certifications under their belt, the North Jutland congress and cultural center revealed earlier this year that they had reduced their CO2e emissions by 28% from 2019 to 2022.

But the work doesn't stop there. Part of the focused effort on sustainability is precisely the NET ZERO pathways conference, which AKKC organizes in close collaboration with Green Hub Denmark.

Monday, September 30, marks the third time the conference opens its doors at AKKC, and the director is convinced that the day can contribute to action within the green transition.

- With NET ZERO pathways, we create a forum where people can be inspired and equipped to take action, where they can discuss, meet like-minded individuals, and, not least, leave with collaboration opportunities across industries based on the green transition. That's what it takes to change what we 'usually' do into something new and more sustainable, explains Nicolaj Holm, CEO of AKKC.

The NET ZERO conference will showcase the business potential in the green transition, with the focal point being the government's target of a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. Action is needed now to achieve this reduction. Therefore, Green Hub Denmark is also excited to once again be part of the NET ZERO pathways collaboration.

- This year, we focus on a range of national and regional projects that are actively testing and demonstrating new and innovative solutions in areas such as Power-to-X, CCUS, and pyrolysis technology. There will be ample opportunity to hear presentations and see the green solutions in practice when we invite companies to showcase their technologies in the exhibition area," says Michael Stie Laugesen, Project Manager at Green Hub Denmark.

Strong Names on the Program Guiding conference participants through the day will be TV host from TV2 News, Karin Cruz Forsstrøm. She will be accompanied by a host of exciting speakers throughout the day, including world-leading Danish climate scientist Sebastian Mernild, who will provide an overview of the climate changes we have seen over time and what changes we can expect in the decades to come.

- It is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the climate system and that widespread and rapid climate changes have occurred. The global surface temperature has risen approximately 1.5°C since 1850, since industrialization.

Each of the last four decades has been warmer than any preceding decade since 1850. For every half-degree further global warming, there will be increases in temperature extremes, intensity of heavy precipitation, and severe drought," explains Sebastian Mernild.

This year, NET ZERO pathways will serve as a prelude to the 10th International European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns, taking place at AKKC from October 1-3, where 800 influential conference participants from across Europe will gather to discuss, share ideas, and strengthen their role in guiding Europe towards a secure and sustainable future. Therefore, NET ZERO pathways will be conducted entirely in English this time.
